Cairnvost Howe – Meridian runs on the energy of people who want to share the hills — as walk leaders, as volunteers helping with logistics and admin, or as supporters who make it possible for us to keep our walks free for participants. Whether you have a Mountain Leader award and forty spare Saturdays a year, or a few hours a month and a willingness to help with a spreadsheet, there is something here for you. We are especially keen to hear from people who work in health and social care, from community organisations who might want to bring a group, and from businesses and grant-makers who share our conviction that access to the outdoors is a public health issue as much as a leisure one.
We are always looking for qualified walk leaders, trained walk assistants, and general volunteers who can help with kit checks, booking admin, or transport coordination. If you hold a Mountain Leader award or are working towards one, we'd especially love to hear from you.
We keep our walks free, which means we rely on donations and grant funding to cover leader expenses, kit loans, insurance, and the small costs that add up quickly when you're running a programme every weekend. Every contribution, however modest, goes directly into keeping a walk free for someone who couldn't otherwise afford it.
We work with community organisations, health boards, and employers whose staff work shift patterns to bring group referrals into our programme. If you represent an organisation whose members or employees would benefit from access to the hills, we would welcome a conversation about how we might work together.
Whether you want to join a walk, ask about volunteering, discuss a partnership, or find out more about what we do, we'd love to hear from you. Drop us a message using the form below or send an email directly to our coordinator — we reply to all enquiries within a couple of working days. If you're not sure which walk is right for you, just say so and we'll help you find the right starting point.
